They won't use any other search facility Wendy. I hope he shows up on the 2008 e/roll hun xx Also hoping my brother does. So many opt out of the edited e/roll now, it's becoming a waste of time. But at least in your case, somebody does actually have the address.....but it's like getting blood out of a stone trying to get it!!

Not long now xx

You could always phone AA and ask hun....as you say, if you're paying, maybe they will.

Just to clarify, it is an opt-out of the register, you have to tick the box not to appear on the full electoral roll.

The new electoral roll is published in March, although I am unaware how long following that date that Tracesmart update their records.

There are other searching facilities that combine the electoral roll with other records, such as the information that I myself use, but, as Ive said before on this forum, if somebody dosent want to be found, then the chances are that they probably wont be.

Anyway, maybe those out there hoping for reunion might not 'opt out' if it made them harder to find. Interesting thought.

Maybe I'm confused by what you've said John....

But You tick the box on the electoral form to opt out of the EDITED version. People choose to opt out to avoid marketing, junk mail, cold calling etc...and if they want to make it dificult to be found!!! This is the version viewable. Also the same data as the UK Info Disks.
However, nobody can opt out of the FULL electoral roll :) .... well you can, but you may get a big fine! ;) Unless maybe if you'r in prison ;)

The Full electoral roll is held at Electoral Libraries all over the UK. This is used by the 3 main credit referencing agencies and such like. But the general public CAN see the FULL electoral roll. However, you can only use it to confirm an address. You can also phone the libraries and dependant on whoever answers, they may help you!

There are other means of searching, but often NOT by the public. Most search facility's available online are the Edited electoral roll....which the majority of people now opt out of.

I knew what I meant! but I may have typed at a different pace to my speed of thought!!

What I meant to say is that everybody is included on the usual electoral roll unless they tick the box to say no thanks.

thats worth a hug and maybe off-topic but nobody is using that group hug topic anymore.

the update was done months and months ago, but this is the length of time it requires to process the information.

It seems that what you are given with one hand is taken away by the other. Birth parents are now allowed to search, but the opt-out means the search is virtually impossible if the person dosent want to be found. At least adoptees can get some assistance sometimes from access to their files and the information in them- although that dosent guarantee anything of course- as we read here all the time.

Hi Wendy

I will speak to my father in law and ask him if he knows the exact dates, as he's involved with the local register of electors. I'm not sure if it's the same nationally.

In the meantime, whilst you are waiting for the new roll to come out, have you put your name on the adoption contact register held at the GRO?

Hi Wendy

As promised an update from my father-in-law!

Forms come out Aug/Sept, and have to be returned by Oct 10th. That is the cut off date. If your son moved after Oct 10th, then it's possible that he may not be on the new electoral roll with the new address details.

However, nowadays apparently, you don't have to wait for new forms to come out, you can apply to go onto the electoral roll at any time. I forgot to ask how often they are updated/printed for the public though, maybe that's still only once per year.

The register that I was referring to is probably the one you are on. Though I had to send Birth Certificates etc to go on it, and so I registered through the post.

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/adopt ... /index.asp

That's the link to the national official register. I think there are different registers kept in different areas and on other webistes. But that is the website for the official one. That is how I found my sister. She had been registered on part one for a number of years, before eventually I added my name onto part 2. Thinking of you.xx
