Allen Irish Travellers

Postby Dune » Wed Jan 13, 2010 11:30 pm

I am searching for Irish travelling people with the surname Allen.

As I am new to this I am not sure if I am allowed to post full names and details?

Anyway, if anyone can help me find out about them (don't want to meet them just yet).
Thanks,
Dune

Dune - not an expert but seen your post Ref Irish Travellers and i just typed" Gypsy genealogy" into "google" give it a try it might give you some avenues to look down.

Also Liverpool University has extensive information on Gypsies.
Im supposed to be doing some jobs around the house but just thought of Pavee Point the Irish Traveller site.

Hope these help - let me know how you get on Frank68

I am sure you will have tried this, but have you done other spellings of Allen.........'Allan' is the most obvious, but in Cornwall I have come across Allin.........also what is the Scots Gaelic and Irish Gaelic spellings of it, I don't know myself, but it could be worth finding outif it exists as a separate form in either of these as being the most obvious close links.............I expect there is some version in Welsh too........although that, like Cornish, could have a more Breton feel to it..........not a linguist myself unfortunately....
