Were you transracially placed for adoption in the UK between 1960- 69?

October Films has been commissioned by Channel 4 to make a documentary about children who were adopted via the British Adoption Project between 1960- 69.

October Films is an award winning production company that specialises in documentaries that are sensitive to their subject matter.

For more information see -

October Films would like to make a film about the experiences of the people who had been adopted via the British Adoption Project. This project was set up in the mid 1960s specifically to place black, Asian and mixed race children for adoption in white families and these children were part of a research study that followed up the outcomes of their experience until 1970s.

There are files from the project still held and there is a possibility they could be opened at the request of the people whose information they contain.

There is currently a lot of political and media interest in the placement of black, asian and mixed race children and October Films want to present these issues in their film through the personal experience of those involved.

If you were transracially adopted during this period and would like to find out more about the proposed documentary please contact: or call 020 7284 6868/ 07794 204 826

Hi JoAnne ......

... you may not have noticed that this particular appeal for people was actually put out in May this quite a while ago actually.......and what often tends to happen is that people will not necessarily post on the board that they would be interested in helping, but will have send private messages direct to the film makers .............lets hope that they did get plenty of interest,............. although also I think that people are sometimes a bit wary of appearing on something that they fear could end up as a Jeremy Kyle type documentary.......... not everyone wants to 'bare all' because whatever one says about one's experiences of adoption, then it is very easy to unintentionally cause one's adoptive parents........ to one's siblings of whatever one's birth parents if they have been found........etc....

born 1944 - adopted 1946.........

Hi Ladyarcher
I do totally agree .I have just started in my search and as always the case with me went straight in there, I have since p.m D.M at octoberfilms and yes I'm sure absolutely they would of received alot of interest. I am also very aware of adoptive parents feelings ,I myself had a very privilleged upbringing with loving parents. I was most definitely over keen with my reply no sooner as I posted it realized it would be more appropriate to contact privately. Its only since having my own beautiful daughters that I have started to research . Thankyou again

Hi JoAnne..........

It is fairly obviously quite natural, and logical, that adopted women will be brought up short as soon as they have their own child or children, and want to know more about their own background ......... in fact, I think statistically that is the point at which most women start to search ............whereas with men it is more likely to be in their fifties or sixties, if they do it at all, which, again, they are statistically less likely to do...........

So good luck with your searches, and keep coming back here for help and suggestions and will always get it........
