Hello all,

There is a programme on ITV called Britain's Adoption Scandal: Breaking the Silence. http://www.itv.com/presscentre/ep1week45/britains-adoption-scandal-breaking-silence

I think it may help to explain why many adopted people were adopted.

It is on Wednesday evening at 21:00.
Jeremy Vine on BBC radio 2 did a segment about adoption last week. He interviewed a birth mother who had been forced into giving her child up for adoption in 1974. Her parents had sent her to a GP when they realised she was pregnant, who had then arranged her adoption without taking her needs into consideration. Her child was taken by a Catholic run mother and baby orphanage. The ITV program investigates how the Catholic Church behaved in the late 60's and early 70's . The Catholic Church in England has recently apologised for the way they treated young mothers and how they coersed them into giving their children away. The Irish Catholic Church probably has a lot more to answer for, so no statement of apology from them yet.
Hopefully this program will shed some light and understanding onto this sensitive subject.
