Birth Certificate

Postby paulc64 » Fri Apr 19, 2013 8:54 pm

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask this question but here goes anyway.

Having actually met my birth mother recently, how do i go about getting hold of my original birth cert?
As i managed to track her down through one of her relatives i didnt need to go through the usual process.
The reason i'd like to get hold of it is that it was obv taken away from her when i was and she's expressed a wish to have it back.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Hi Paul,

You will be able to request a copy of your birth certificate from the General Registry Office (GRO)

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certi ... efault.asp

As you already know your own birth name and BM's maiden name, its just a simple online form. Payment fee is less than £10.00 which takes about a month to process or for approx £25.00 they can fast track your order within a week.

You shouldn't have to go through the counselling malarkey, thats only to be given you birth name.
